Established in 1764 after the settler John Fitch, this industrialized area utilized water power from the Nashua River for businesses such as paper making. This community in North Central Massachusetts is roughly 49 miles west of Boston.


The city elects a mayor and has a council of  to run the town day-to-day and has an annual Town meeting to pass/amend the town bylaws. Selectmen's meeting are typically held every two weeks in the town hall.

Longsjo Classic Bike Race

Located in the town center in early May, this venue brings out the best of the local crafters and organizations which represent small town life. Come and enjoy fresh baked pies, music, fire engine rides and friendship.
